Foolproof Guide to Great Skincare

Updated: Nov 19, 2018

I love makeup. More specifically I love Maskcara makeup. Makeup can do AMAZING thing to help you look and feel beautiful. However the best thing you can do to help your makeup application and improve your overall look is to develop a really good skincare routine. Think of your skin like a canvas. If your canvas is not in great shape to start with no matter how great your paints and your painting skills some flaws will still show through.

Now if anybody is experienced with troubled skin it is me. I won't go into all that now but if you want to know more read my post More than Just Makeup. I have been diagnosed with Rosacea (like really bad Rosacea) and this effects my skin on a daily basis. Being under the care of an awesome dermatologist has helped dramatically but so has cementing a weekly skincare regime. There are so many different ideas about what products should be used when and how often I created a little graphic about what I do. Now don't think that because I follow this my skin is perfect - nope. There is no cure for Rosacea and sometimes it seems like my skin is as temperamental as my toddler but since using a consistent plan my skin has been markedly better.

Before and After Skincare Routine

My morning routine doesn't change. I try to be very gentle on my skin in the morning to prevent creating redness. My main goal is to wash away any product residue from the previous night and to start with a fresh face.

I use Maskcara's skincare line Tres Leches. I use their Cleanser and Toner every morning. The Milk Cleanser is a bit different then other cleansers I have used in the past since their is no foaming or lathering. Foaming cleansers may leave your skin feeling squeeky clean but in the process they tend to strip your skin from natural oils and create a drying effect - which can lead to red, flaky skin. The Milk Toner is very mild and helps balance my skins PH and shrinks pores. I finish my morning with a moisturizer with SPF. I use Aveeno Positively Radiant with SPF 30 and save my Milk Cream for my evening moisturizer application. When using any moisturizer or sunscreen in the morning allow it to absorb into your skin your 15-20 minutes before applying makeup. This just helps keep your makeup lasting longer and helps prevent it from sliding off your face.

As you can see in the graphic it's the evening routine where things change up from day to day. It is important each evening to remove your makeup and cleanse your skin. Then rotating between using Toner, using facial masks (I love a good charcoal mask), eye creams, and serums that best meet the needs of your skin type and work towards achieving your desired look. Finish most nights with a moisturizer like Milk Cream.

Feel free to print this graphic and keep in your bathroom as a reminder of a proper skincare routine.
